Why the Weather Gets a Place on the Mug
One of the little details I love to include on the personalised event mugs is the weather from the day of the race. It might seem like a small thing, but if you’ve ever run an event in blazing sunshine, sideways rain, freezing wind or even snow, you’ll know the weather can become part of the story. And that is exactly how it started.
Back in 2019, I was making mugs for Bideford Half Marathon. It was not exactly perfect running weather. There was rain and strong winds of around 46 mph. The sort of weather where you question your life choices somewhere around mile three, then feel strangely proud of yourself afterwards for carrying on anyway.Since then, I have included the weather on many of my event mugs because it adds another layer to the memory. Your finish time tells one part of the story. Your name and race details make it personal. But the weather helps capture what the day actually felt like. That is why the weather is more than just an extra line on the mug. It is a little reminder of what you pushed through.
And let’s be honest, if you ran 13.1 miles in Storm Sheila, you deserve to have that officially recorded somewhere better than a blurry photo, a damp race number and a slightly traumatised Strava upload.
